Crispy Waffle Iron Recipes

Waffle Iron Recipes, you say? Yes okay CAN DO. I’m very much down widdat.

Waffle Iron Recipes is one of those recipe names where you read it and say, mmm! yumm! sounds so good! …. erhhhhm, so, like, ahem what is it?

Let me tell you what my version of Waffle Iron Recipes is all about, you food interneter BFFs.

1. Cornbread Waffles

Just take a second and picture this: a pile of perfectly tender pulled pork served on a cornbread waffle, topped with a mountain of crunchy slaw and a generous drizzle of spicy BBQ sauce. Are you in the kitchen already? I thought so.

You can totally use your go-to cornbread recipe for this, or even a boxed mix if that’s your jam. If not, this recipe is super simple to adjust so you get just the right amount for your waffle-making adventure.

2. Homemade Chicken and Waffles Recipe

This is one of those combinations that just works, no matter the time of day. I fell hard for chicken and waffles and find myself ordering it all the time. I even had a version in Tallinn, Estonia, with fried duck and a sweet hoisin sauce that was just out of this world!

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to try making fried chicken at home, this is it. The two most important parts are the buttermilk and the seasoned flour; they are absolutely essential for getting that tender, flavor-packed chicken.

3. Cheesy Leftover Mashed Potato Waffles

Did that title make you stop scrolling? Because it definitely got my attention. Oh my gosh, this recipe is a total winner!

These are fantastic as a little snack or as the perfect side dish for literally anything. I dare you not to fall in love with these next to beef, pork, eggs, or even fish.

Using mashed potatoes gives you an incredible crust with a fluffy middle that’s about to become your new obsession. So long, French fries. See you later, hash browns. It’s all about mashed potato waffles from here on out.

4. Sweet Potato Waffles

We all love sweet potato pie, so it just makes sense that we’d be obsessed with sweet potato waffles, right? Not only are they packed with wonderful flavor, but their vibrant color is just so beautiful.

You’ll need to cook your potatoes first by either boiling or baking them, and then mash them until they’re nice and smooth.

Let them cool down a bit before you add them to a blender with the other ingredients. You want everything to be blended really well.

They’ll need about 4 to 5 minutes to cook, and then you can top them with some maple syrup and chopped pecans. Delicious.

5. S’mores Waffles with Nutella and Toasted Coconut

There’s no doubt about it, these waffles are a little bit extra. I mean, just a waffle sandwich stuffed with marshmallow would be plenty sweet!

But let’s be real, if you’re going to indulge, you might as well go all the way, right?

That Nutella adds all the rich, nutty goodness needed to turn this into a true s’mores masterpiece. I sometimes like to swap out the toasted coconut for some chopped nuts.

6. Doughnut Waffles with Maple Glaze

These doughnut waffles are just the cutest things ever, with their crunchy outside and soft inside! I absolutely love the smaller serving size for these, and that thick glaze is just the perfect finishing touch.

You could, of course, make these full-sized, but with that glaze, you might have a tough time finishing a whole one.

7. Mac and Cheese Waffles

When you make mac and cheese, are you all about broiling the top? Do you hunt for those crispy cheese bits that give the creamy pasta a wonderful crunch? If so, you have to try this.

Just imagine getting that amazing crunchy texture in every single bite.

All you have to do is make your favorite mac and cheese and spoon it right into the middle of the waffle iron. Just be sure to spray the iron with cooking spray so nothing sticks.

Once it’s done, you’ll have a perfectly toasted edge and a tender center. Try serving this as a side with some tomato soup. Yum!

8. Bacon & Cheddar Waffle Biscuits

Okay, this one might be a little controversial. While I am completely in love with these bacon and cheese waffle biscuits, I can see why some of you might think I’ve lost my mind.

Aren’t biscuits supposed to be light and fluffy? Won’t the waffle iron crush all the air out?

Yes, it will. But trust me, it’s okay. You’ll still get that amazing flavor, and the crust it creates is something truly special.

9. Waffle Cheeseburger

You’ve probably had chicken and waffles, but have you ever tried burgers and waffles?

This is so easy to pull off using Bisquick waffle mix and some shredded cheese. The cheese melts right into the waffle, giving it an amazing savory flavor, and the texture is just to die for.

You might find that a Belgian waffle is a bit too big for this, but a regular waffle iron will work perfectly.

10. Wafflewich

Have you ever heard of the Elvis sandwich? That incredible mix of peanut butter, banana, and bacon? This is pretty close, and you’ll definitely be ready for a nap when you’re done.

You can use frozen waffles for this if you have them. Just put one on the bottom and load it up with sliced bananas and mini-marshmallows.

On the other waffle, spread a good amount of peanut butter before putting it all together. You could even add some bacon at this point. Why not, right?

Once this is cooked, everything will be ooey-gooey, messy, and absolutely perfect.

11. Savory Zucchini Waffle Fritters

These are paleo, grain-free, and gluten-free, making them an incredible side dish or quick snack. With zucchini, spinach, onion, and coconut aminos, there’s absolutely no shortage of flavor or nutrients here.

I usually whip these up to go alongside some pork chops or a roasted chicken, and they bring such a lovely touch of color to the plate.

12. Pizza Waffles

These waffle iron pizza pockets are a thing of pure beauty. Using crescent rolls is such a smart shortcut for a crust that’s both tasty and flaky with zero prep time.

The only tricky part here might be resisting the urge to overfill these little guys. I know you’ll want to pack in lots of filling so every bite is amazing, but try to hold back if you can.

The great news is you should only put the cheese and any other toppings in the middle. By keeping the pizza sauce on the side for dipping, you’ll avoid any potential mess.

13. Falafel Waffles

Not only is the name fun to say, but this recipe is also savory and vegan! I absolutely love making falafel, and having them in waffle form turns them into the perfect base for everything from hummus and salad to even roasted pork.

The base is made from ground chickpeas, which gives the waffles a fantastic flavor and a wonderful texture. The best part? It can all be made in a food processor, which makes your prep time super short.

If you’re not a fan of cilantro, just swap it out for parsley, and be careful not to over-mix the batter. You want it to stay a little bit chunky.

14. Waffle Iron Hash Browns

My favorite part of a hash brown has to be the edges. Golden, crunchy, and totally irresistible, this recipe ensures you get plenty of that amazing crunch.

There’s nothing worse than a mushy hash brown, and when you cook them in a pan, it’s all too easy to turn the edges while leaving the middle soggy.

The waffle iron takes all the guesswork out of the process, leaving you with crunchy little pockets of salted potato that are just perfect for holding a bit of cheese.

15. Waffle Iron Grilled Cheese

I love using a thick slice of bread for my grilled cheese, but I often find that it starts to burn before the cheese is completely melted. And that’s where the waffle iron grilled cheese comes in.

You can use an ultra-thick slice, and the griddle lines will toast the edges perfectly. Plus, cooking it inside the waffle iron guarantees that the cheese will be melted all the way from the center to the edges.

When I make grilled cheese, I go all out. I brush the bread with some garlic butter mayonnaise and fill it with freshly grated mature cheddar or Gruyere. The cheese is the star here, so you’ll want something that tastes incredible and melts beautifully.

16. Blueberry Waffles

Classic, sweet, colorful, and completely delicious—blueberry waffles will always be one of my top favorites.

Whenever I make them, I always whip up a double batch and freeze half. That way, you can just pull out a portion whenever you’re in the mood. They usually fit perfectly in a toaster!

17. Birthday Cake Mix Waffles

What could possibly be better than breakfast waffles? Funfetti breakfast waffles!

Using a cake mix might sound a little strange, but if you think about it, it’s pretty much the same as using Bisquick. The only real difference is that cake mixes have a bit more sugar.

You can use a Funfetti mix if you have one, or just toss some rainbow sprinkles into your batter. Don’t hold back with the sprinkles, as they’ll melt right into the batter while it cooks.

Top these off with some hot fudge sauce and whipped cream, and don’t forget the candle!

18. Waffle Iron Cinnamon Apples

Grilled fruit is such an underrated treat. When you cook fruit slices, it helps release their natural juices, and the longer they cook, the more they caramelize.

All you need for this recipe is a little sugar and cinnamon. I like to dip each side of the apple slice in the cinnamon-sugar mix to make sure the whole thing gets a sweet coating.

Serve them with a scoop of ice cream or some crumbled store-bought meringue and whipped cream.

19. Homemade Waffle Ice-cream Sandwiches

Sometimes I forget that I’m a grown-up and can make waffle ice cream sandwiches at 3 p.m. on a Tuesday if I want to. Needless to say, I had to pause writing this list to go make myself a snack. It was totally worth it!

I think those Funfetti waffles would be a fantastic choice for this, or even the brownie waffles. The trick to getting that perfectly shaped sandwich is to gently slide the whole block of ice cream out of the container and slice off a piece.

20. Waffle-Iron Cookies

If you can make brownies and doughnuts in a waffle iron, then why not a batch of cookies?

These start with a good creaming of the butter and sugars—I’m talking a full 5 minutes until they are super light and fluffy. Finish it off like you would any normal cookie recipe, but get ready for a pretty thick dough.

Spray your waffle iron, and then place a big ball of the cookie dough right in the center. Don’t press it down; let the iron do the work for you. After about 5 minutes, they should be cooked just right.

21. Waffle Cake

I think we all have that one friend who claims they don’t “like” cake. But I bet they absolutely love a stack of waffles. So, what could be a better way to celebrate their special day than with a waffle cake? It’s not overly sweet, and the filling is super creamy.

You can use any kind of waffle for this—the Funfetti waffles, in particular, would be a very colorful option.

22. Waffle Iron Quesadillas

Do you make your quesadillas in the microwave, like some kind of monster? Or do you use a pan to get that perfectly toasted edge? Well, how about using a waffle iron instead? It might sound a bit crazy, but I know you’re going to want to try it out!

Just add your mix to the machine and layer in your fillings. Some of it might seep into the batter, but most will just heat through and melt in the middle. Serve it up with a generous scoop of spicy guacamole and some fresh salsa.

23. Waffle Iron Brownies

I don’t think I need to tell you that these aren’t going to be the fudgy brownies you might be used to.

By cooking them in a waffle iron, you’ll end up with more of a cake-like brownie. In fact, they’re basically brownie waffles, and they are perfect for breakfast!

You get that same great flavor but with the waffle texture we all know and love.

These are a fantastic way to elevate your breakfast game and would make for a perfect Valentine’s Day breakfast! Just add some whipped cream and fresh strawberries, and you’re in for a real treat.
